The Combloux ski area is host to lots of local race competitions, for all ages and disciplines: slalom, giant slalom, downhill. They start them very young so hopefully some of them will go on to World Cup competitions and maybe even the Winter Olympics (next winter, it’s being hosted by Russia).

Fantastic conditions again today, as long as you didn’t ski too low. Some huge clouds below us look like they’re about to surround us at any moment. Luckily, they kept their distance but it was like looking from the window of an aeroplane.

It’s Christmas Eve and where else to ski but on the piste called Pere Noel, or Father Christmas? As usual, very few people about despite the fabulous conditions. It’s not that cold but the snow is superb. The forecast for Christmas Day is not good, however, grey skies and low cloud. Megeve, in the backgound, continues to grow to fill the available space.

The piste basher sits at the top of Mont Joly waiting for the pistes to close so it can lumber off and make them all flat again.

Mont Blanc welcomed us back to Combloux like an old friend. He gave us a great display of his ‘hats’ – which normally means there some kind of weather on the way. That just about covers all the bases, I’d say.
